STARS offers day training programs for adults as well as employment opportunities in its work centers and the community.
Scottsdale Training & Rehabilitation Services (STARS) is seeking a Transportation Coordinator.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Responsible for the coordination and development of vehicle routes, scheduling of drivers, and vehicle inspections and maintenance.
Must be able to accommodate the loading and unloading of disabled passengers.
Duties include week-to-week coordination of routes and driver scheduling, filling in for routes when drivers are out sick, facilitating annual driver safety training, conducting safety checks and inspections of vehicles and equipment, scheduling vehicles for maintenance or repairs, ensuring the cleanliness of vehicles, communicating with families of passengers as needed and helping drivers monitor participants behavior while in vehicles.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Assist Fleet Maintenance & Facilities Manager.
Fill in and take notes for Fleet Maintenance & Facilities Manager in MAG meetings as needed.
Upkeep of all service and inspection records for vehicles.
Forward all documentation and records to Fleet Maintenance & Facilities Manager in a timely manner as requested.
Conduct weekly safety inspection on all vehicles, most known status and condition of all vehicles.
Conduct a pre-and post-transport inspection and vehicle check ensuring each vehicle is properly equipped and adheres to prescribed Department of Transportation standards and compliance with proper safety standards.
Assist with taking vehicles in for maintenance.
Conduct no notice onsite evaluation of drivers performing pre and post-trip inspections at random.
Follow established safe transportation and awareness procedures.
Perform routine cleaning and bus maintenance activities.
Conduct refueling activities, including maintaining assigned fuel use logs; report perceived or potential defects in a timely manner to the manager.
Complete a vehicle sweep to ensure no participant is left in the vehicle after each trip.
Demonstrate professionalism by exhibiting role-model behavior and by using appropriate language, dress, manners, and respect.
Communicate and interact with participants on an individual and/or group basis promoting appropriate behavior and support for participants.
Able to speak to others in a professional manner.
Strictly adhere to STARS confidentiality policies and state and federal laws.
Willingness to work with and interact with individuals who have developmental disabilities and physical/communication challenges.
Remain current on STARS-required training and certifications.
Show respect and engage in appropriate interactions with co-workers, community partners, participants, and families/guardians.
Report unusual incidents on proper forms and inform appropriate staff regarding incidents within required time frames.
Maintain attendance records of participants in the vehicle.
Maintain sanitization checklist until discontinued.
Work all hours as scheduled and report to work on time as scheduled.
Display enthusiasm for participation in a non-profit organization serving individuals with disabilities.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to follow a pre- and post-vehicle inspection checklist.
Excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of developmental/cognitive and/or physical disabilities; behavior modification skills and intervention strategies that can be implemented.
Knowledge of principles and practices of vehicle and equipment maintenance.
Knowledge of principles and practices of fleet management.
Knowledge of equipment, tools, and materials used in vehicle and equipment maintenance services.
Knowledge of principles and practices of safety management.
Pertinent local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, and rules.
Ability to organize, implement and direct vehicle maintenance operations and activities.
Ability to navigate, follow maps and read and interpret printed directions.
Ability to function independently or as a team; able to work with a minimum amount of supervision.
Ability to learn new program information and have excellent follow-through and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and ability to plan, organize and implement transportation instructions.
Maintain a positive attitude and collaborative working relationship with participants, staff, and families.
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite; specifically, Word, and Outlook, Excel.
Demonstrate empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by disabled individuals.
Communicate relevant information or concerns with the manager.
Ability to work under stressful conditions that may include dealing with difficult participants and handling multiple work assignments.
Knowledge of safe driving principles and practices.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma:
two years related experience and/or training.
One year of experience working with individuals who have developmental disabilities.
OR any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
Must have an AZ driver's license, and a satisfactory 39-month driving record.
Must meet DES requirements for fingerprint clearance.
Must pass a criminal/background screening.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds Must be 25 years of age.
Normal or corrected visual acuity.
Must be able to frequently stand, walk, sit, and able to assist the participant with physical challenges, such as pushing a wheelchair, kneeling, reaching, stretching, bending, etc.
Must be able to operate an agency transport vehicle; manually keep documentation records and monitor participants visually and auditory.
Must perform crisis intervention techniques to prevent behavior harmful to the participants or others.
Respond appropriately in crisis situations by calling for assistance as needed; and able to physically perform First Aid/CPR.
Must have the ability for a flexible schedule.
CPR, First-Aid, Article 9, Prevention and Support; preferred.
