Primary Purpose of Position
The primary function of this position is to oversee the branding, planning and development of the creative visual elements that communicate our marketing objectives to their target audiences. The Senior Graphic Designer (SGD) formulates design concepts and presentation approaches as it relates to art work, layout design and copy for visual communications media, such as print, product packaging and product labels. The SGD helps develop and implement brand strategy of campaigns, product packaging and product labels. He or she is charged with determining the best ways for us to visually represent our company brand and then help establish and maintain that brand. It involves working with internal and external customers, pitching designs and understanding internal and external customer needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Mentor and inspire team of designers.
Manage multiple projects from concept through completion.
Lead creative sessions for project kick-offs.
Provide quality control over concepts and projects.
Establish creative direction on all print, product packaging and labeling to make sure they meet branding standards.
Ability to produce media-quality product packaging.
Generate multiple concepts for a campaign or project.
Formulates basic layout design or presentation approach and specifies material details, such as style and size of type, photographs and graphic.
Making sure all design projects meet production timelines, working closely with Production Manager.
Implement and oversee Branding standards.
Communicate with outside venders/printers, etc. as needed.
Ability to work under tight deadlines while paying close attention to detail.
Communicate with image sights on getting discounts.
Attends photo shoots and printing sessions as needed to ensure needs are met.
Develop systems and processes.
Cover projects for other designers as needed.
Required Skills
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Graphic Design, Visual Arts or related field
5-7 years print design and production experience.
Must have creative portfolio of work related to magazine/catalog layout as well as experience creating media-quality product packaging.
Close attention to detail with excellent organizational, analytical and time management skills.
Able to manage multiple projects autonomously while working within a learned structure.
Must be able to implement quick revisions to match requests.
Experience in preflight, proofing, preparing and press checking files.
A high level of relational skills are necessary in order to maintain a positive level of teamwork between various departments of the company (internal customers).
Photography:
Formulate basic layout design or presentation approach and specify material details e.g. style and size of type, photography, graphics and illustrations.
Knowledge of photography equipment, styling, studio setups, lighting for product photography.
Software knowledge required for this position:
Highly proficient in Adobe CS5, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, as well as Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Flash is a plus, although not required.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
