Cassandra Database Administrator (Scottsdale)
The GMS Cassandra DBA is an operational role that will help GMS architect, administrate, monitor, optimize performance and trouble-shoot the Cassandra environment in production and non-production environments.
North American Managed Services is a group of Engineers providing outsourced Infrastructure and Application services to our clients world-wide, supporting Orion Health Products, Third Party Products (eMPI, Normalization, AtMail, Oracle), Hardware and Operating Systems, Networking and Security Solutions. We support a steadily increasing number of clients on our own hosted High-Availability Platform and within the clients own infrastructure.
Responsibilities of role:
He/she will be responsible for working closely with development teams to design, implement and support our customers data storage and reporting systems. The Cassandra Database Administrator (DBA) will have passion for Big Data and databases, and bring relational and non-relational (NoSQL) expertise to help us build top shelf products and services. As a Cassandra Database Admin (DBA), and key member of the team, you will get the opportunity to mentor colleagues and development staff, and work in-depth with cutting-edge technologies.
Experience:
Senior DBA with minimum 5 years of experience in database engineering, administration and support
Expertise in Cassandra administration in a production environment
Must have hands-on noSQL experience from evaluation of new frameworks to deployment, maintenance, and performance tuning of clusters with at least 2 digit size
Proficient with Hadoop, Elastic Search and Redis is a big plus
Solid understanding of noSQL landscape, available frameworks and CAP theorem
Strong knowledge of how noSQL technologies interact and complement each other but also their limits
Deep understanding of internals of noSQL frameworks
Ability to build any noSQL open source framework from source
Proficiency in one or more scripting languages including Perl, Python, Shell
Strong SQL skills experience
Good prioritizing and time management skills
Does not require training nor guidance to evaluate new frameworks and easily comes up to speed as self-starter
Programming experience in at least one non scripting language
JVM performance tuning experience
Strong in Linux and network maintenance
Does not shy away to interact with open source community. Especially important when dealing with beta and alpha versions
Willing to take on challenging tasks under pressure
Provide 24x7 on-call support in rotation
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
In depth knowledge of architecting and creating Cassandra database systems.
Knowledge of Cassandra systems backup and recovery
Knowledge of Cassandra security
Knowledge of Cassandra maintenance and tuning both database and server
Solid understanding of migration protocols between relational and Cassandra databases.
Knowledge of Perl, Python, Shell, Hadoop, Elastic Search, and Redis
Sound knowledge of implemented application systems
Experience in code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle
Education:
BS in Computer Science or equivalent technical training and professional work experienceEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
