It's XKE predecessor was universally lauded for its performance on the road and the race track, worshipped for its beauty and remains to this day an icon in automotive history.
By 1974 the XKE was stretched, weighed down with safety features and slowed down by emissions controls.
Its cramped quarters had lost its appeal.
Jaguar, to remain relevant needed a new platform for its halo offering.
Now, in retrospect, the XJ-S was a smashing success.
The Big Cat skewed more towards grand touring than racing but enjoyed plenty of success on the track.
This gen-2 1987 XJ-S V12 Coupe is a fine example.
Unrestored, with only 63k original miles it is a two owner car that has received all the documented maintenance it has ever needed including recent fuel lines and AC service.
