For Sale at Auction: 1969 Ford Mustang in Scottsdale, Arizona for sale in Scottsdale, AZ

1 of 24
Vehicle Description This 1969 ultra-stock Mustang driven by Sam Auxier Jr.
was purchased for the sum of one dollar from Ford to race in the Ultra-Stock class, which was a pre-Pro-Stock class run under AHRA, NAAR and taken from rules of NASCAR drag racing's earlier division.
The car is presented as restored, exactly how it was raced in 1969.
The tunnel-port side-oiler 427ci V8 engine is equipped with a factory single-plane dual 4-barrel intake and dual Holley 780cfm carburetors.
The car was originally built with a Ford 9-inch rear axle assembly and is presented now with a Ford 9-inch rear end with a Strange Engineering spool and 33-spline axles, with 5:
14 gears.
The fuel system is a Moon 3-gallon tank with dual Stewart Warner electric fuel pumps.
When the car was raced in 1969, Sam Auxier Jr.
took the car personally to Hurst in Pennsylvania, and the first Super Shifter was installed at the Hurst Plant and tested.
The car still has the Doug Nash gears-equipped Ford Toploader 4-speed manual transmission.
Inside the car has an aluminum dash panel with Stewart Warner gauges, autographed by Henry Ford III.
Sam Auxier Jr.
raced this car in the new NAAR (National Association of Automobile Racing) and won the Spring Nationals 1969, along with match races against other big-name drivers.
He had plenty of magazine coverage by winning titles at events put on by Super Stock and Cars Magazine, beating Ronnie Sox at the CARS Magazine shootout, then beating Grumpy Jenkins in the finals for the second year in a row.
The current engine was built and completed by Sam Auxier Jr.
Machine work for the engine was always done by Bill Coleman of Coleman Brothers Machine in Baltimore, MD; cylinder head modifications and machine work was always done by Ladd's Porting Service in Elkridge, MD; and R&M Performance in Cambridge, MD, completed the body and paintwork restoration.
The lettering on the car was painted by the same person who did it in 1969, completing it as a stunning piece of drag racing ultra-stock history.
Most recently the car was featured in a 2019 5-page article written by Eric English in Car Craft magazine.
It was also featured in Hot Rod magazine in June 1969, August 1969 and April 1970; CARS Magazine in November 1969 and January 1970; a full feature by Donald Farr in Mustang Monthly July 1970; and in Mustang and Fords in October 2009.
This car was featured at Carlisle All Ford Nationals in June 2009 and 2010, and at National Dragster's Where Are They Now in 2010.
Additionally, it has been featured in many drag books, including Charlie Morris' Ford Drag Cars, and was featured at the SEMA and PRI shows.
This car was on the cover of the July 2009 Muscle Car Madness at the York reunion in Pennsylvania, along with a feature article the next year.
