Vehicle Description This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 RS underwent a 4-year rotisserie restoration with the rebuilt high-output 302ci V8 engine, along with the Muncie 4-speed close-ratio transmission and heavy-duty 12-bolt posi-traction rear axle.
It is equipped with chromed long-tube headers, which were originally shipped in the trunk of the Z/28s due to emissions regulations at the time, and the exhaust flows through Walker Advantage full-flow mufflers.
The oil has been changed and it has received fresh coolant, GM coolant hoses, new belts and new ignition system parts, including the entire distributor, cap, rotor, points, condenser, coil and ignition wires that are OEM New Old Stock.
The front suspension has been upgraded to tubular upper and lower control arms for improved handling.
Further upgrades include sport Prothane greaseable suspension bushings in the front and rear, as well as Prothane body mounts.
To complete the handling package, adjustable aluminum dampening shocks were also installed.
The rear suspension still retains the five leaf springs and staggered shock absorbers specific to the Z/28, which first appeared on the '68 models to neutralize wheel hop problems associated with 1967 models.
The brake system received a complete overhaul in 2021, including new wheel cylinders, master cylinder, calipers, pressure balance valves, pads, linings and fluid.
The headlight doors have been upgraded to Detroit Speed electric actuators.
The dash, door panels and center console are original to the car, with the seats having been reupholstered and the carpets, headliner and parcel shelf replaced with OEM-spec components.
This car also features a passenger-side grab handle above the glovebox and was part of the Special Interior Group of 1968 Camaros.
It was ordered without a radio.
1968 Z/28s were all powered by a solid-lifter 302ci V8 engine rated at 290hp at 5,800 rpm but was generally known to produce in excess of 400hp and was capable of 7,000
rpm.
They were also all equipped with the 4-speed manual Muncie close-ratio transmission.
The fiberglass spoiler was a separate option as RPO-D80 and is present on this car.
