Vehicle Description Alan Shepard is known as the first American in outer space, and this was his 1968 Corvette convertible painted white with a brown leather interior.
As one of the 12 astronauts in the NASA program, Shepard was provided a Chevrolet courtesy car and ultimately leased a 1968 Corvette convertible for $1 from GM and through a local Chevrolet dealer.
Shepard was known to select specific options for his cars, and this is one of 664 Corvettes made in this combination in 1968.
This car was factory-optioned with an L89 Tri-Power-equipped 427ci V8 engine package rated at 435hp and a 4-speed manual transmission.
This car spent time in the Corvette Museum of American and other places and has documentation showing it was an addition to the earlier NASA facility display and Corvette Museum of America.
It was on display at the NASA U.

Space Walk of Fame Museum in Titusville, FL, stating it was Shepard's car with the documented VIN.
